Kerosene: did you know….?? Kerosene is a name applied to a group of crude oil products having a boiling range of 140 – 270 °C. The oldest application of kerosene is fuel as lamp oil for oil lamps. Nowadays the most important application of kerosene is aviation fuel for turbine aircrafts, as jet fuel.

A versatile fuel and the foundation of jet fuel A1

Alternatively, kerosene is applied as domestic heating oil (paraffin oil) in the UK and Ireland. Also in the solvent industry kerosene is used, for example a paint thinner. But: kerosene also find application as a blending component for automotive diesel oil, especially for winter quality, as it improves the cold flow properties of gas oil.

The most important aspect of jet-fuel A1 is however: safety!

Kerosene has to be clean and stable, not corrosive and may not produce deposits in the engine. The water content is not specified, but visible water is not allowed (clear, not hazy).
